Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, he said: Kharijah ibn Abdullah ibn Sulayman ibn Zayd ibn Thabit narrated to me, he said: Husayn ibn Bashir ibn Salman narrated to me, from his father, who said: I and Muhammad ibn Ali, or a man from the family of Ali, entered upon Jabir ibn Abdullah. We said to him: "Narrate to us how the prayer was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)." He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed the Dhuhr when the shadow was like the sandal strap. Then he prayed the Asr with us when the shadow was like it and like the sandal strap. Then he prayed the Maghrib with us when the sun set. Then he prayed the Isha with us when the twilight disappeared. Then he prayed the Fajr with us when the dawn broke. Then, on the next day, he prayed the Dhuhr with us when the shadow of everything was equal to it. Then he prayed the Asr with us when the shadow of everything was twice its length, about the amount a rider travels to Dhu al-Hulayfah at a trot. Then he prayed the Maghrib with us when the sun set. Then he prayed the Isha with us when a third of the night had passed. Then he prayed the Fajr with us when it was bright. We said to him: "How should we pray with al-Hajjaj, while he delays it?" He said: "He did not pray at the time, so pray with him. If he delays it, pray it at its time, and make it (the prayer with him) a supererogatory prayer. And this narration of mine is a trust with you; so when I die, if al-Hajjaj is able to exhume me, let him exhume me."
