Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 3:870

Ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Mu'awiyah ibn Salih, from Abu al-Zahiriyah, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, who said: Mu'awiyah led us in prayer in the darkness of the end of the night. Abu al-Darda' said: "Perform this prayer when it is brighter (i.e., closer to dawn), for it is more profound in understanding for you."
