Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 1:1398

Waki’ narrated to us, from Hisham, from Qatadah, from Anas, who said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would nod their heads while waiting for the Isha prayer. Then they would stand and pray, and they would not perform ablution.
