Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 1:1854

Hushaym narrated to us, he said: Mansur informed us, from Ibn Sirin, from Aflah, the freed slave of Abu Ayyub, from Abu Ayyub, that he used to command [people] to wipe over the leather socks (khuffayn), while he himself used to wash his feet. It was said to him regarding that: "How do you command [us] to wipe while you wash?" He said: "Woe to me if it is a convenience for you and a sin for me. I have seen the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, do it and command it, but ablution has been made beloved to me."
