Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 1:1866

Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Qasim ibn Mukhaymirah, from Shurayh ibn Hani' al-Harithi, who said: I asked 'Aishah about wiping [over the socks]. She said: "Go to 'Ali, for he is more knowledgeable about that than I am, so ask him." I went to 'Ali and asked him about wiping. He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to command us that the resident should wipe for a day and a night, and the traveler for three days."
