Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 1:1882

Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Jarir narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abu Zur’ah ibn ‘Amr, he said: I saw Jarir wipe over his leather socks. He said: And Abu Zur’ah said: Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "When one of you inserts his feet into his leather socks while they are in a state of purity, then let him wipe over them for three [days] for the traveler, and for one day for the resident."
