Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 1:1913

Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Ishaq, that he heard Anas ibn Malik being asked about wiping over the leather socks (khuffayn). He said, "Wipe over them." They said to him, "Did you hear it from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" He said, "No, but I heard it from those among our companions who are not suspected, saying: 'Wiping over the leather socks,' even if he did such and such," and he did not use a kunyah (nickname).
