Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 1:212

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Hammad ibn Salamah, from Hisham, from his father, and from Humayd, from al-Hasan, that they both used to wipe their heads with the remainder of [the water on] their hands.
