Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 35:290

Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Abu al-Tayyah, from Musa ibn Salamah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) sent eighteen sacrificial camels with a man and commanded him regarding them with his command. He departed, then returned to him and said, "What do you see if something of them becomes unable to walk (i.e., sick or dying) upon us?" He said, "Slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood, then place it on its side, and do not eat from it, neither you nor anyone from the people of your company."
