Hushaym narrated to us, Hajjaj informed us, from ‘Ata’, that Mu‘awiyah performed Witr with one rak‘ah, and this was disapproved of regarding him. So Ibn ‘Abbas was asked about it, and he said: "He has hit upon the Sunnah."
