Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 35:385

Waki’ narrated to us, from Badr ibn ‘Uthman, who heard it from Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa, from his father: That a questioner came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and asked him about the prayer times. He did not answer him anything. Then he ordered Bilal, so he performed the iqamah for the night prayer (al-‘isha’ al-akhirah) when the twilight had vanished. Then, on the following day, he prayed the night prayer at the first third of the night. Then he said: "Where is the questioner about the time? The time between these two times is the time."
