Hadith 35:391
Al-Fadl ibn Dukayn narrated to us, from Sa’id ibn ‘Ubayd al-Ta’i, from Bashir ibn Yasar, that a man from the Ansar, who was called Sahl ibn Abi Hathma, informed him that a group of his people went to Khaybar and dispersed within it. They found one of their number killed. They said to those in whose vicinity they found him, "You have killed our companion." They said, "We did not kill him, nor do we know who the killer is." They went to the Prophet of Allah and said, "O Prophet of Allah, we went to Khaybar and found one of our number killed." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "The eldest, the eldest." He said to them, "Will you bring evidence against those who killed him?" They said, "We have no evidence." He said, "Then they will swear an oath to you." They said, "We are not satisfied with the oaths of the Jews." The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, disliked that his blood should go unavenged, so he paid his blood money with one hundred camels from the camels of the Sadaqah.
