Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:1124

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Safwan bin Isa narrated to us, from Anis bin Abi Yahya, who said: I asked Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib about a *mukātab* (an enslaved person with a contract of manumission) who was owned by three people. Some of them settled with him (for his freedom), while others held onto his contract and did not settle with him. The *mukātab* died and left behind a large amount of wealth. To whom does he leave it? He said: Sa’id said: "Those who held onto the remainder of his contract shall be bought out, then what remains shall be for them."
