Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn Abi Za’idah narrated to us, from Mujalid, from ‘Amir, who said: I read the letter of ‘Umar to Shurayh regarding that. And that is because a slave girl from Quraysh, her brother said to her while she was betrothed: "Give me your inheritance from your father as charity before you go to your husband." So she did so. Then she sought her inheritance, and he [‘Umar] returned it to her.
