Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:1672

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn Abi Za’idah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from ‘Amr ibn Shu’ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: I heard a man from Muzaynah asking the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he said: "What do we do with a lost item found on a frequented road?" He said: "Make it known for a year. If its owner comes, [give it to him], and if not, then it is yours."
