Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:1831

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Muhammad ibn Kardus, from his father: That a man was punished for [drinking] wine, then he testified before Shurayh. So he asked me about him, and I said: "He is among the best of our youth." So he accepted his testimony.
