Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:2011

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Hani, he said: Abu Hudhayfah informed me, from Abd al-Malik ibn Muhammad, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Alqamah, he said: A delegation of Thaqif came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and they presented a gift to him. He said: "Is it a gift or charity?" They said: "A gift." He said: "Indeed, by a gift, the favor of the messenger is sought and the fulfillment of a need, and by charity, the Face of Allah is sought." They said: "No, rather it is a gift." So he accepted it from them, and they occupied him until the Dhuhr and Asr prayers.
