Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:2015

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Marwan narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from al-Sa'ib ibn Yazid, who said: Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to give me gifts, and I would say: "O Messenger of Allah, give it to someone who is more deserving of it than I am." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Take it. Either you make it wealth for yourself, or you give it in charity. Whatever comes to you of this wealth while you are neither asking for it nor coveting it, then take it; and whatever does not come to you [in that manner], do not let your soul follow it."
