Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:2286

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, he said: Al-A'mash narrated to us, from Shaqiq, from Masruq, he said: He passed by him while he was in chains, with statues of brass being sold. Masruq said: "If I knew that it would be cut into pieces, I would have paid for it (to destroy it), but I fear that He (Allah) will punish me, so that prevented me." "By Allah, I do not know which of the two men he is: a man for whom his evil deed has been made attractive, or a man who has despaired of his Hereafter, so he enjoys the world."
