Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:2486

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Yahya bin Sa’id narrated to us, from Abu Ja’far al-Khatmi, who said: My uncle sent me and a servant of his to Sa’id bin al-Musayyib. He said: "What do you say regarding sharecropping (al-muzara’ah)?" He said: "Ibn Umar used to see no harm in it, until a hadith was narrated to him from Rafi’ bin Khadij regarding it, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to the Banu Harithah and saw a crop on the land of Zuhayr. He said: 'How beautiful is the crop of Zuhayr!' They said: 'It does not belong to Zuhayr.' He said: 'Is the land not the land of Zuhayr?' They said: 'Yes, but he has sharecropped it to so-and-so.' He said: 'Return his expenditure to him and take your crop.'" Rafi’ said: "So we returned his expenditure to him and took our crop." Sa’id said: "Let your brother farm, or let him leave it fallow for silver."
