Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ayyub, who said: When ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Udhaynah died, Abu Qilabah was mentioned for the judiciary, so he fled until he reached al-Sham. This coincided with the dismissal of its governor, so he fled until he reached al-Yamamah. I met him after that, and he said: "I have not found the likeness of the judge except like a man swimming in the sea; how much can he swim before he drowns?"
