Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:3151

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-A’la narrated to us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan and Muhammad, regarding the man who pledges a Mushaf (copy of the Quran) as collateral for a loan: They said: He shall not read from it, even if its owner gives permission. But if it is in a sale (transaction) and its owner gives him permission, he may read from it; otherwise, he shall not read from it.
