Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:3169

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Shaybani, from al-Sha’bi, from Shurayh: That he used to require the oath of *al-battah* (an absolute/decisive oath) regarding what was absent and what was present. He (the narrator) said: So I said to ‘Amir, "Do you see if a man claimed against my father for wealth that I have no knowledge of, would it be upon me to swear the oath of *al-battah*?" He said, "Yes." So we denied that with a severe denial. He said, "Return the oath to the one who is more knowledgeable of it than you." He (the narrator) said: And ‘Amir used to adopt this.
