Hadith 13:3312
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Jarir narrated to us, from Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from Zadhan, he said: Two men entrusted a woman with a deposit and said to her: "Do not hand it over to one of us until we both gather at your place." Then they departed and were absent. One of them came to her and said: "Give me my deposit, for my companion has died." She refused until he frequented her often, then she gave it to him. Then the other came later and said: "Bring my deposit." She said: "Your companion came and mentioned that you had died, so he took your deposit from me." They took the matter up to Umar. When they narrated the story to him, Umar said to her: "I do not see you as anything but liable." The woman said: "O Commander of the Faithful, appoint Ali between me and him." He said to Ali: "Judge between them, O Ali." Ali said: "This deposit is with me, and we ordered her not to hand it over to one of you until you both gathered at her place. So bring your companion." He did not hold her liable. He said: So they saw that they had intended to make off with the woman’s wealth.
