Hadith 13:598

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Jarir narrated to us, from Abd al-Aziz ibn Rufay’, from Iyas ibn Abd Allah ibn Safwan, that Safwan fled from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent for him, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) intended [to go to] Hunayn. He said: "O Safwan, do you have any weapons?" He said: "As a loan or by force?" He said: "No, rather as a loan." So he lent him between thirty and forty coats of mail. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went on the expedition to Hunayn. When the polytheists were defeated, Safwan’s coats of mail were collected, and some of them were found to be missing. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him: "O Safwan, we have found some of your coats of mail to be missing, shall we compensate you for them?" He said: "No, O Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), for there is in my heart today what was not [there before]."
