Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:601

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn Idris narrated to us, from al-Shaybani, from al-Sha’bi, who said: Shurayh used not to hold the borrower or the trustee liable for the borrowed item or the deposit, until Ziyad commanded him [to do so]. He said: So I said to him, "How did he do that?" He said: "He continued to hold them liable for it until he died."
