Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn ‘Ayyash narrated to us, from Mutarrif, from al-Sha’bi, who said: Shurayh used to require an oath regarding a defect that is not seen, based on one’s knowledge, and regarding the apparent [defect], based on evidence.
