Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 13:884

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ and Humayd ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Mughirah ibn Ziyad, from ‘Ubadah ibn Nusayy, from al-Aswad ibn Tha’labah, from ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who said: I taught some people from the People of the Suffah writing and the Qur’an. One of them gifted me a bow. I said: "It is not wealth, and I will shoot with it in the way of Allah." I said: "I will surely go to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and ask him." So I came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, a man from those whom I was teaching writing and the Qur’an gifted me a bow, and it is not wealth, and I will shoot with it in the way of Allah." He said: "If you would like to be collared with a collar of fire, then accept it."
