Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from al-Walid ibn Abi al-Walid, from the one who narrated to him, from Ali, that he used to say in his supplication: "O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy which encompasses everything, and by Your might with which You have overcome everything, and by Your greatness with which You have dominated everything, and by Your authority with which You have filled everything, and by Your power against which nothing can stand, and by Your light which has illuminated everything, and by Your knowledge which has encompassed everything, and by Your name with which You cause everything to perish, and by Your Face which remains after the annihilation of everything. O Light, O Holy One, O Light, O Holy One (three times), O First of the first, and O Last of the last, and O Allah, O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful. Forgive me the sins that bring down retribution, and forgive me the sins that bequeath regret, and forgive me the sins that withhold the oath, and forgive me the sins that alter blessings. And forgive me the sins that bring down affliction and give the enemies the upper hand, and forgive me the sins that withhold the rain of the sky, hasten annihilation, darken the air, and reject supplication, and forgive me the sins that lift the veil."
