Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from al-Jallas, from Uthman ibn Shammas, who said: We were with Abu Hurayrah when Marwan passed by him. He said, "Some of your hadith from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." Then he went on, then he returned. We said, "Now he will fall upon him [criticize him]." He said, "How does the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, pray over the funeral?" He said, "I heard him say in the prayer over the funeral: 'O Allah, You guided it [the soul] to Islam, and You took its soul, and You know its secret and its public. We have come as intercessors, so forgive it.'"
