Hadith 21:677
Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from Ibrahim al-Saksaki, from Ibn Abi Awfa, who said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that will suffice me from the Qur'an, for I do not know anything of the Qur'an." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him: "Say: 'Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), wal-hamdu lillah (and praise be to Allah), wa la ilaha illallah (and there is no god but Allah), wallahu akbar (and Allah is the Greatest), wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (and there is no power and no strength except by Allah).'" The Bedouin counted them on his hand as five, then he turned away for a short while, then he returned and said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is for my Lord, so what is for me?" He said: "Say: 'Allahummaghfir li (O Allah, forgive me), warhamni (and have mercy on me), warzuqni (and provide for me), wa 'afini (and grant me well-being), wahdini (and guide me).'" The Bedouin counted them on his hand as five, then he departed. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "The Bedouin has filled his hands with good, if he fulfills what he said."
