Hadith 37:1

Abu Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, he said: Abu Bakr Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, he said: Abu Mu’awiyah narrated to us, from al-A’mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd Rabb al-Ka’bah, who said: I arrived at Abdullah ibn Amr while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka’bah and the people were gathered around him. I heard him saying: While we were with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on a journey, we stopped at a place. Some of us were setting up their tents, some were practicing archery, and some were with their livestock, when his caller called out: "Prayer is gathering." So we gathered, and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) stood and addressed us. He said: "There was no prophet before me but that it was his duty to Allah to guide his nation to what he knew was good for them and to warn them against what he knew was evil for them. This nation of yours has its well-being placed in its beginning, and its end will be afflicted with trials and matters that you will disapprove of. Then trials will come, and the believer will say: 'This is what will destroy me.' Then it will clear. Then another trial will come, and the believer will say: 'This is it.' Then it will clear. So whoever among you wishes to be distanced from the Fire and admitted into Paradise, let his death come to him while he believes in Allah and the Last Day, and let him treat the people as he would like them to treat him. And whoever pledges allegiance to an Imam, giving him the clasp of his hand and the fruit of his heart, let him obey him as much as he is able. If another comes to dispute with him, strike the neck of the other." He said: I put my head between the people and said: "I adjure you by Allah, did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)?" He pointed with his hands to his ears and said: "My ears heard it and my heart grasped it." I said: "This cousin of yours commands us to consume our wealth among ourselves unjustly and to kill one another, while Allah has said: 'And do not consume your wealth among yourselves unjustly, nor offer it to the judges...' to the end of the verse." He said: He joined his hands and placed them on his forehead, then lowered his head for a moment, then said: "Obey him in the obedience of Allah, and disobey him in the disobedience of Allah."
