Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah ibn al-Hajjaj informed us, from Qays ibn Muslim, from Tariq ibn Shihab, who said: Khalid ibn al-Walid flogged a man with a prescribed punishment (hadd). When the next day came, he flogged another man with a prescribed punishment. A man said, "By Allah, this is the tribulation (fitnah); he flogged a man yesterday for a prescribed punishment, and he flogged a man today for a prescribed punishment." Khalid said, "This is not the tribulation. The tribulation is only that you are in a land where acts of disobedience are committed, and you want to leave it for a land where acts of disobedience are not committed, but you do not find it."
