Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 37:267

Ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Sinan ibn Abi Sinan, from Abu Waqid al-Laythi: That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when he came to Hunayn, passed by a tree to which the polytheists used to hang their weapons, which was called "Dhat Anwat." They said, "Make for us a Dhat Anwat." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "This is as the people of Musa said to Musa: 'Make for us a god just as they have gods.' You will surely follow the ways of those who were before you."
