Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 37:334

Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Ala’ ibn al-Musayyab, from Fudayl, who said: Ali said: "Take the gift (al-ata’) as long as it is a means of sustenance (tu’mah). But if it is in exchange for your religion, then reject it with the strongest of rejections."
