Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 37:340

Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, he said: Shayban informed me, from Ziyad ibn Ilaqah, from Qutbah ibn Malik, from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, he said: "Let not a man among you walk a span toward a person of authority in order to humiliate himself before him. For by Allah, a people who have humiliated the authority will not cease to be humiliated until the Day of Resurrection."
