Aswad bin Amir narrated to us, he said: Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, from Ali bin Zaid, from Abu Nadrah, who said: We came to Uthman bin Abi al-Aas on a Friday to compare a Mushaf of ours with his Mushaf. We sat with a man who was speaking, then Uthman bin Abi al-Aas came, so we moved to him. Uthman said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "There will be three garrison cities for the Muslims: a city at the junction of the two seas, a city in the Jazira, and a city in Ash-Sham. The people will be terrified three times, then the Dajjal will emerge in the rear of an army that is defeated from the direction of the east. The first city he reaches is the city at the junction of the two seas. Its people will become three groups: a group that stays and says, 'We will remain and see what he is,' a group that joins the Bedouins, and a group that joins the city next to them. With him will be seventy thousand wearing Persian cloaks (al-sijan). Most of his followers will be Jews and women. Then he will come to the city next to them, and its people will become three groups: a group that stays and says, 'We will remain and see what he is,' a group that joins the Bedouins, and a group that joins the city next to them. Then he will come to Ash-Sham, and the Muslims will withdraw to the pass of Afiq. They will send out their livestock, but their livestock will be struck, and that will be severe upon them. They will be afflicted by intense famine and hardship, to the point that one of them will burn his bowstring and eat it. While they are in that state, a caller will call out from the dawn: 'O people, the relief has come to you,' three times. Some of them will say to others, 'This voice is that of a satiated man.' Then Isa bin Maryam will descend at the time of the dawn prayer. The leader of the people will say to him, 'Step forward, O Spirit of Allah, and lead us in prayer.' He will say, 'You, the people of this nation, are leaders over one another; step forward and lead us in prayer.' The leader will step forward and lead them in prayer. When he finishes, Isa will take his spear and go toward the Dajjal. When he sees him, he will melt as lead melts, and he will place his spear between his chest muscles and kill him, and his companions will be defeated."
