Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 37:506

Husayn ibn Ali narrated to us, from Za'idah, from Hisham, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Uqbah ibn Amr, who said: I was a man of self-respect and sensitive pride; no one, neither a ruler nor anyone else, could belittle anything from me. He said: Then I reached a state where my commanders would give me the choice between enduring the ugliness of their faces and the humiliation of my pride, or taking my sword and striking with it, thereby entering the Fire. So I chose to endure the ugliness of their faces and the humiliation of my pride, rather than take my sword and strike, and thereby enter the Fire.
