Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, he said: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, he said: And Rabi'ah ibn Yazid al-Dimashqi narrated to me, he said: Abdullah ibn Qays narrated to us that he heard al-Nu'man ibn Bashir [narrating] from Aisha, that she said: "Shall I not tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" "He sent for Uthman and called him, so he came to him. I heard him saying: 'O Uthman, perhaps Allah will clothe you in a shirt, and if they want you to take it off, do not take it off'—three times." I said: "O Mother of the Believers, where were you regarding this hadith?" She said: "I forgot it, as if I had never heard it."
