Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Hammad bin Zayd narrated to us, from Yazid bin Humayd Abu al-Tayyah, from Abdullah bin Abi al-Hudhayl, who said: When the news of the killing of Uthman arrived, Hudhayfah said: "Today, the people have descended from the edge of Islam; how many stages have they traveled away from it?" He said: And Ibn Abi al-Hudhayl said: "By Allah, these people have deviated from the straight path, to the extent that between it and them is a rugged terrain; they are not guided to it, nor do they recognize it."
