Hadith 37:576
Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Mu'tamir narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Sa'id: That some people were at the tent of 'Aisha, and 'Uthman passed by them—and I think that was in Makkah. Abu Sa'id said: There did not remain anyone among them except that he [Uthman] sent him away or insulted him, except for me. And there was among them a man from the people of Kufa, and 'Uthman was bolder toward the Kufan than he was toward others. He said: "O Kufan, do you insult me? Come to Medina," as if he were threatening him. He said: So he came to Medina, and it was said to him: "You should go to Talha." So Talha went with him until he came to 'Uthman. 'Uthman said: "By Allah, I will surely lash you one hundred [times]." Talha said: "By Allah, you shall not lash him one hundred [times] unless he is an adulterer." He [Uthman] said: "I will surely deprive you of your stipend." Talha said: "Indeed, Allah will provide for him."
