Hadith 37:9
Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Hujayr ibn al-Rabi’, who said: ‘Imran ibn Husayn said to me: "Go to your people and forbid them from plunging into this matter." I said: "I am suspected among them, and I am not obeyed among them, so convey it to them on my behalf." [He said]: "For me to be an Abyssinian slave among some pebble-strewn goats, grazing them on the top of a mountain until death overtakes me, is more beloved to me than that I should shoot an arrow in either of the two ranks, whether I missed or hit."
حدثنا بن علية عن أيوب عن حميد بن هلال عن حجير بن الربيع قال قال لي عمران بن حصين ائت قومك فانههم أن يخفوا في هذا الأمر فقلت إني فيهم لمغموز ولما أنا فيهم بالمطاع فأبلغهم عني لأن أكون عبدا حبشيا في أعنز حصبات أرعاها في رأس جبل فيدركني الموت أحب إلي من أن أرمي في واحد من الصفين بسهم أخطأت أو أصبت
