Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 22:300

Waki’ narrated to us, from Hisham ibn al-Ghazz, from Sulayman ibn Musa, from ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir, who said: I was with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on a journey. When dawn broke, he gave the adhan and the iqamah, then he placed me to his right and recited the two *Mu’awwidhatayn* (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas). When he finished, he said, "How did you see?" I said, "I have seen, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then recite them whenever you sleep and whenever you wake up."
