Hadith 27:444

Ibn Abi Ghunyah narrated to us, from his father, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We were sitting in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out and sat with us. It was as if birds were upon our heads; none of us spoke. He said: "Among you is a man who will fight the people over the interpretation (ta'wil) of the Qur'an, just as you were fought over its revelation (tanzil)." Abu Bakr stood up and said: "Am I he, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "No." Then 'Umar stood up and said: "Am I he, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "No, but he is the one who is mending the sandal in the room." He said: Then 'Ali came out to us, and with him was the sandal of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which he was repairing.
