Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us, from Zakariya, from Amir, who said: Ali sought the hand of the daughter of Abu Jahl from her paternal uncle, al-Harith ibn Hisham. He sought the permission of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding her. He (the Prophet) said: "Are you asking me about her lineage?" Ali said: "I already know her lineage, but do you command me to do it?" He said: "No. Fatima is a piece of me, and I do not like for her to be distressed." Ali said: "I will not do anything that you dislike."
