Ghundar narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Mansur, from Hilal ibn Yasaf, from Rabi' ibn 'Umaylah, from Hudhayfah, who said: A man from the people of Kufa and a man from the people of Syria differed and boasted to one another. The Kufan said: "We are the people of the Day of Qadisiyyah, and the day of such-and-such, and the day of such-and-such." The Syrian said: "We are the people of Yarmouk, and the day of such-and-such, and the day of such-and-such." Hudhayfah said: "Neither of them did Allah witness. 'Ad and Thamud perished; Allah did not consult them regarding them when He destroyed them. And there is no other village that can ward off from itself a great [calamity]," meaning Kufa.
