Hadith 25:270

Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Bayan, from Wabara, who said: A man bought a sister of his who had been a captive in the Pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah). He bought her and a son of hers whose father he did not know. The son grew up and acquired wealth, then he died. They came to Umar and narrated the story to him. He said: "Take his inheritance and place it in the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal). I do not see that he left behind a benefactor (wali ni'ma), nor do I see for you any prescribed share (farida)." This reached Ibn Mas'ud, so he said: "Wait until I meet him." He met him and said: "O Commander of the Faithful, [he has] agnates ('asaba) and a benefactor." He [Umar] said: "Is it like that?" He said: "Yes." So he gave him the wealth.
