Hadith 5:16

Jarir narrated to us, from Mansur, from Salim, from Atiyyah, the freed slave of Banu Amir, from Yazid ibn Bishr al-Saksaki, who said: Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik sent him with a covering (kiswah) for the Kaaba. When he reached Tayma, a beggar came to him and asked. He (Yazid) said: "Give charity, for charity saves from seventy doors of evil." He said: I said, "Is there anyone here more knowledgeable?" They said, "A man from the Jews has forgotten." So I went to the house and said, "Who has forgotten?" His wife looked out at me and gave me permission, so I looked in on him. When he saw me, he performed ablution. I said to him, "What is the matter with you that you performed ablution when you saw me?" He said, "Indeed, Allah the Exalted said: 'O Musa, perform ablution, for if you do not, and a calamity befalls you, do not blame anyone but yourself.'" He said: I said, "A beggar is asking." He said, "Give charity, for charity saves from seventy doors of evil." He said, "He spoke the truth." He then mentioned some of the causes of death, such as the collapsing of a wall, the breaking of a beast's neck, and drowning, among what Allah willed of the things he counted as causes of death. He said: I said, "And does it save from the Fire?"
