Hadith 5:282
Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ibn Abi ‘Arubah, from Qatadah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) established regarding what is watered by the sky (rain) or by flowing water (springs/streams), or what is *ba‘l* (naturally irrigated by deep roots), a full tenth (10%). And regarding what is watered by the *rasha* (a rope and bucket/well-water), it is half of a tenth (5%). Qatadah said: And it used to be said regarding that which is measured of the fruits: a tenth and half of a tenth.
