Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Ibrahim ibn al-Muhajir, from Ziyad ibn Hudayr, who said: A man narrated to us from Jabir ibn Zayd that he was asked about the poor (*al-fuqara’*) and the needy (*al-masakin*). He said: The poor are those who abstain from asking. And the needy are those who ask.
